SDI just released a new online AIA course called Steel Doors and Frames 101 that provides one 1 AIA HSW CE hour. The framework for this course was developed by two veteran architect/specifiers, which was then developed by the Steel Door Institute’s Technical Committee.
This course covers the basics of fire rated openings and how to avoid negating a rating. It also details the performance levels of doors, how to avoid over- or under-specifying, the importance of hinge and strike locations, and specialty door products.
Steel Doors and Frames 101 is a free, online course that is available 24 x 7. It is perfect for newer architects or those who want to learn more about steel doors. Click here to take it today!

SDI: Now on Your Smart Phone
In response to user requests, SDI will soon have a mobile version of its website! Those of you in the field can then use the user-friendly interface to quickly find the information you need.
This is the actual website, not an app, so you don’t have to download anything to use it. Just point your browser to SteelDoor.org and you’ll be able look up standards, FAQs, the glossary and other important information. The mobile version of the site will even have a search bar that will allow you to find additional assistance. Just type in “hardware locations,” for example, to see the applicable standards.
SteelDoor.org goes mobile in January 2014. Thank you for the wonderful suggestion.
Steel doors are durable, and one of the most versatile products on the market. They can be made in a range of sizes and shapes, used indoors and out, get painted or faux-finished to match any design—the possibilities are endless. Check out our gallery of steel doors that includes samples from schools, offices and medical buildings and more to see how steel doors can add to the aesthetic of your design.
